"The Crescent" up for sale

Part of the shopping development in Hinckley that opened in 2015 will be sold on the open market to help council funds.

Part of the multi-million pound town centre development, The Crescent, in Hinckley is to be sold on the open market.

Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council want to sell their stake to help fund new major projects in the borough.

The council says businesses in The Crescent will be unaffected by the sale.

Commenting on the decision, Council Leader, Councillor Mike Hall said “It has always been the council’s intention to dispose of the site to a more specialist management company and the timing is now right for us to do this so that we can fund new projects without the need to borrow."

“Although the council receives a net income from the site which has helped to keep council tax for our residents amongst the lowest in the country, it is a diversion from delivering our day to day services, and we are now of the opinion that the council can step aside knowing that The Crescent will continue to deliver shopping, dining and leisure facilities for the residents of Hinckley and Bosworth.”

During a recent meeting councillors recommitted to continuing to regenerate the town centre and its comprehensive events programme in partnership with Hinckley BID which contributed to Hinckley being a finalist in the national Great British High Street awards in 2016 as well as being awarded the accolade of best market town in Leicestershire by Leicestershire Promotions in 2017.

Opened in late 2015, The Crescent is Hinckley’s major £80m commercial leisure scheme developed by the Tin Hat Regeneration Partnership. It has created a modern mixed-use development, well linked to the town centre providing larger units to complement the existing town centre shops and provide a purpose built, well configured retail scheme to meet modern needs.

The scheme includes:

  • Sainsbury's superstore
  • Cineworld: five-screen multiplex cinema
  • TK Maxx
  • Restaurants
  • New bus station
  • 550 car parking spaces
