Pint of Science Loughborough 2024

Pint of Science Loughborough brings the stars behind the latest research to a venue near you !

Head down to your local pub, cafe or pizza house to hear talks on everything from renewable energy innovations, mindfulness, biology in bloom, climate and you, children’s rights in sports, green hydrogen, watery worlds, open mic(roscope) to Virtual Reality.

Pint of Science Loughborough festival will see over 55 scientists and researchers bring their discoveries out of their laboratory and into a pub, café or pizza house in Loughborough town centre!

Each night will provide a unique line up of talks, demonstrations and live experiments held in a relaxed and informal environment with over 21 events happening across seven 7 venues namely Esquires Coffee, Public and Plants Cafe, Albert House, PETER Pizzeria, Swan in the Rushes, Champs Bar and Grill and, Revolution, all located in Loughborough town centre, as the world's largest festival of public science talks returns in UK this 13 -15 May 2024.

‘Can we prevent dementia?’ - A fascinating workshop from Eef Hogervorst (Professor of Biological Psychology)

‘Exploring Green Hydrogen’ - A whole evening of discussion from a team of cutting-edge green energy researchers

‘The Science of ADHD’ - An eye-opening talk about ADHD research from Loughborough’s Dr Eric Hill and a ADHDadultUK’s co-founder Dr James Brown.

Loughborough Pint of Science 2024 coordinator Lisa Barrett Wheatley says:
“We’re so excited to bring to you Loughborough’s biggest ever Pint of Science Festival! With 21 events themed from neuroscience to climate change, there is something to quench everyone’s thirst for knowledge. This year’s Pint of Science Lead coordinator Esther Mgbemeje said,
“It is amazing to see researchers and scientists come together in an informal setting to share their breakthroughs and advancement in various fields from arts, social science to science and Engineering, all while networking, having a drink and a good laugh”.

Loughborough audience members will also be able to take part in the largest ever multi-city pub quiz - in association with interactive quiz company, KwizzBit which will see teams tackle event-themed trivia and go head-to-head with other cities interactively, in the hope of claiming the top spot in their city and across the UK.

Pint of Science founders Dr Praveen Paul and Dr Michael Motskin wanted to bring back the personal touch to science. From three cities back in 2013 to hundreds of cities this year, the festival continues to showcase the brilliant work happening in our doorsteps. Pint of Science provides a platform for researchers to share their stories, and audiences an opportunity to ask their questions about science to those directly behind it.

Creative Reactions
Creative Reactions is a brand-new series of events to Loughborough’s Pint of Science festival, promoting fusion between science and the arts to showcase research in a new light. Pairs of scientists and creatives have come together to produce artistic responses to science, including photography, poetry and music. Plus, the public have an exciting opportunity to share their own sci-performance at the Open Mic(roscope) Night! Loughborough is one of only seven locations in the UK hosting Creative Reactions events, so don’t miss out on this opportunity to get creative!

Whilst every science evening during the festival is unique, each will include at least two experts presenting their research.
