10-year-old wins photo competition

Over 100 entries were received across the three categories.

Photographers from across the borough have been recognised for their brilliant photos of the outdoors in Charnwood.

Charnwood Borough Council launched the ‘Love the outdoors in Charnwood’ photo competition in the summer and asked people to submit their snaps of the borough’s beautiful country parks, nature reserves and ancient woodlands.

Over 100 entries were received across the three categories of Young Photographer, Wonderful Wildlife and the Open Category.

Ollie Boby, aged 10 from Barrow upon Soar was selected as the winner of the Young Photographer category for his photo of model boats on Charnwood Water.

He said: “I was really surprised when my mum told me I had won! I noticed how the boats were reflecting in the water and took the photo. I’m looking forward to taking more photos when visiting next time.”

A photo of a blue tit at Richardson’s Meadow caught the judges’ eyes and was chosen as the winner.

Iris Sayer, from Newtown Linford who took the photo, said: “I was thrilled to find out I had won! I took the photo this summer. We are incredibly lucky to have outdoor spaces like the meadow and Bradgate Park on our doorstep.”

Cllr Jenny Bokor was part of the judging panel and had the task of helping to choose the winning pictures. She said: “It was brilliant to receive so many entries. There was a fantastic variety and the judges really enjoyed looking through them.

“It was very difficult choosing the winning entries and we have some very talented amateur photographers!

“Well done to all of our winners and thank you to everyone who entered.
