The funfair was meant to start this Friday.

It has been confirmed that Ashby Statutes will take place a week later to allow for the mourning of the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

The annual event will now return to Market Street and Brook Street from Friday 23rd to Tuesday 27th of September.

Originally, the funfair was due to start this Friday.

A small children's ride will be in operation for one hour on Saturday 17 September at Brook Street car park.

Councillor Tony Gillard, Portfolio Holder for Business and Regeneration at NWLDC, said: “In light of the recent news, we have taken the decision to postpone this year’s Ashby Statutes to allow for the national period of mourning.

“We understand that this is a difficult time for many, and have worked with Pat Collins Fun Fair, Ashby de la Zouch Town Council, Leicestershire County Council and partners to put the necessary measures in place so that the event can take place at a more appropriate time.

“The funfair will now return a week later and we’d like to thank our partners for working with Pat Collins Fun Fair to make this happen and to residents for their understanding.”

Opening times:

Friday 23 - 6pm until 11pm
Saturday 24 - 12noon until 11pm
Sunday 25 - 12noon until 8pm (for families with younger children)
Monday 26 - 4pm until 10pm  (during the morning the fair is open to children with disabilities which is organised by Ashby Lions and supported by Ashby School)
Tuesday 27 - 4pm until 10pm

Councillor John Coxon, Leader of Ashby de la Zouch Town Council, said: “Ashby de la Zouch Town Council fully supports the decision to postpone the annual Statutes Fair until the following week. This is a reasonable compromise.

“In our view, it would have been most inappropriate to hold the fair during a period of national mourning, but equally it would have been very disappointing to many people not to have been able to attend this excellent annual event for the town.”

Temporary bus stops will be in operation on North Street on The Green, and South Street near the car park. No waiting zones will also be in place on Derby Road, Elford Street, North Street, Lower Church Street, South Street, Station Road, Bath Street, Wilfred Place and Trinity Close.
