Annual event returns this August

Tickets have gone on sale for this year’s Bosworth Medieval Festival – which will feature loads of new attractions to keep the whole family entertained.

There’s so much to see and do at the festival – which takes place on Saturday, 17 and Sunday, 18 August at Bosworth Battlefield Heritage Centre and Country Park – that this year, all tickets will be valid for the whole weekend, which means that visitors can come on either or both days for no extra cost.

Once visitors are through the gates, all events during the two days, except talks in the Heritage Room and have a go archery, are free of charge.

The family-friendly festival is one of the highlights of the summer calendar and features the re-enactment of two battles from the Wars of the Roses, with the Battle of Bosworth as the grand finale.

The Battle of Bosworth was a pivotal moment in English history, which saw King Richard III lose his life and his crown to Henry Tudor – bringing the Tudor dynasty to the throne. The re-enactment aims to help visitors to learn more about this crucial point in English history, as well as honouring those who fought and died on both sides.

As well as the battle re-enactments, there are large living history encampments to explore, jousting, cannon fire demonstrations, guided tours, author talks, a medieval craft market and an array of hands-on games and competitions for children, as well as entry to the award-winning exhibition and free car parking.

New events and entertainment for this year include period falconry displays – both flying and static - medieval cooking demonstrations and food tasting, a roving Jester, the King’s Executioner and a medieval puppet show. There will be events taking place in both arenas across the two days and a new, mounted skill at arms display which puts the horses and armoured riders through their paces.

We are really excited that we are able to offer an even bigger and better Bosworth Medieval Festival this year, with lots of new events, activities, displays and stalls to keep the whole family entertained.

“Bosworth Medieval Festival 2019 is now even better value, with tickets being valid for both days at the same price as last year. If you’ve visited the festival before, you will see so much more this year. And if you’ve never visited, please come and join us on August 17 and 18 for a great medieval experience.
