London Road car park will become a temporary Covid-19 testing centre site in November.
The last cars will be allowed to park at the car park until 10pm on 31st October before work starts to create the walk-in test site.
It will be managed by Public Health England and their contractors, and will remain in place for at least three months, although this may be extended depending on local testing need.
North West Leicestershire District Council said having a testing centre in Coalville is of huge benefit to the town, meaning people don’t have to travel large distances to get a test should they show symptoms.
All other council car parks remain unaffected, including the others that immediately surround the council offices.
A spokesperson for the Council said "many of our staff continue to work from home due to the pandemic and we don’t expect there to be any negative impact on the ability for shoppers and visitors to find a space in that area of town."
Please note, the testing centre is designed to be a walk-in centre – not a drive thru. It will operate between the hours of 8am and 8pm seven days a week and invites people to be tested on an appointment-only basis, meaning the number of people at the site is always limited.
The test centre is expected to be operational from Monday 9th November.
