Schoolchildren across Leicestershire have the chance to inspire recycling across the county by creating a work of art.

Leicestershire County Council is inviting youngsters, aged between eight and 14 years of age, to get their creative juices flowing and design an eye-catching poster to encourage residents to recycle more.

The child with the winning design will have their masterpiece unveiled at their school and displayed at one of the county council’s 14 recycling and household waste sites, while the school will receive book vouchers.

We want children across Leicestershire to get more enthused and engaged when it comes to recycling and I cannot wait to see what inventive designs pupils can come up with.

This competition is a great way for youngsters to have fun, while learning about the difference recycling can make to the world.

Hopefully they will be able to take important messages learned home to their families to encourage people across the county to recycle.

All recycle posters sent in for consideration should be:

• Original designs created by hand or by computer;
• Created on A4 paper, in portrait and in full colour and
• Include why recycling is important and the benefits;

Schools must then pick the top three posters, designed by either pupils or classes, and send them in to the county council for consideration. Entries must include the name and age of the pupil or class name, along with the name and address of the school.

The county is a high performing recycling area, with around 49 per cent of rubbish
 recycled, but the authority is always aiming to further improve the rates.

Schools can send the top three entries from a pupil or class to Recycling competition, Room 700, Leicestershire County Council, Have Your Say, FREEPOST NAT18685, Leicester, LE3 8XR.

The competition has stated and and will run until Friday, 27 April.

The winner will be chosen by a judging panel and will be announced in late May.
