The festive season will arrive in style in Coalville as Saturday 2 December sees the return of ‘Christmas in Coalville’.

This year an additional entertainment area at Memorial Square will host a barrel organ and music from the Leicestershire Co-op Band, which will fill the air with festive sounds, alongside street entertainers.

The hub of the event next to Coalville Market will include walkabout entertainers, music, stalls, fairground rides and ending with a magical fireworks finale at 5pm after the Christmas lights are officially switched on.

Headlining the stage ahead of the fireworks will be Steps tribute – The Steps Show – with local talents The Street, Strife of Riley and Unplugged warming up the crowd beforehand.

Whilst enjoying the on-stage entertainment, which also includes a performance from Belvoirdale Primary School and an appearance by cast members from the Century Theatre’s Aladdin performance, visitors to Christmas in Coalville will be able to visit Santa in his grotto and meet real reindeer.

Inside Coalville Market, guest stalls will cosy up with the regulars, providing a range of gifts and Christmas goodies, while the Coalville Heroes will be exhibiting their Famous 50 interactive display for the final time.

Shoppers will enjoy a food, drink and craft fair in the Belvoir Shopping Centre whilst being entertained by live music, the Hermitage FM stage and street entertainers.

Councillor Alison Smith MBE, Deputy Leader and Portfolio Holder for Community Services at North West Leicestershire District Council, said: “Christmas in Coalville always attracts huge numbers, with local people enjoying the additional stalls in the market and the Belvoir Centre, the entertainment on the stage and around the streets and the beautiful real reindeer, which are always popular.

“We’re excited to bring a new area to the event this year, with music and entertainment at Memorial Square. We hope visitors take the opportunity to go and see the spectacular Christmas tree and support local businesses at that end of town. We’re really thankful to Hermitage FM – our wonderful community radio station – for providing the music in this part of town and also in the Belvoir centre.”
