Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council recently appointed a Riverbank Clearance team.
Following incidents of illegal waterway waste dumping, the team were appointed so cases could be dealt with more rapidly.
Starting near Asda, the team have been busy working their way along the River Anker in Nuneaton and they will end at the section of the river located at the rear of the Town Hall sometime this week. Once this section is complete, the team will continue their work along the river, in addition to other sites in the Borough, periodically throughout the year.
Clearing rubbish which included traffic cones, scaffolding and bikes and removing overgrown vegetation, the work produced some great results. Cllr Kyle Evans, Portfolio holder for Public Services is delighted with their achievements, he said:
“It’s been great to see the team in action. They have already made great progress, with several large items being recovered and overgrown vegetation cut back.
"So far they have cleared approximately 4.5 tonnes of rubbish and by the time the section is complete it will probably be nearer 8-10 tonnes. The river is looking much cleaner, wildlife can now thrive, and residents can enjoy its natural beauty.”
