Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council says this is 'sad news for our residents and extremely worrying for Cineworld employees.'
Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council has contacted Cineworld after it was announced that the Hinckley cinema could close.
The council has asked if there is an opportunity to 'avert this closure' however they have not yet received a request from Cineworld for this.
A statement from Cineworld said: "We regret that Cineworld Hinckley is at risk of closure. At the moment the cinema is open as usual, and we will update at the end of September when the legal process is complete."
Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council has said that they are 'deeply concerned to hear that Cineworld intends to close six UK cinemas, including its cinema in Hinckley, in the coming weeks' and that 'this is sad news for our residents and extremely worrying for Cineworld employees.'
Council Leader Stuart Bray said: “This is extremely sad and disappointing news as the cinema is much loved by the residents of this borough. We will work with our partners including the DWP to provide help and advice to Cineworld employees at this worrying time and do what we can to help safeguard the future of this great facility for our residents and visitors “.
The Hinckley Cineworld cinema is part of The Crescent, the multi-million-pound town centre mixed retail and leisure redevelopment scheme which opened in December 2015.
