There will be a vote to decide on the 22nd of May.

A report has been published by Charnwood Borough Council which shows a proposal to nominate Cllr Jewel Miah as Leader of Charnwood Borough Council.

Following the local elections on 4th May 2023 no political group has overall control of the Council but the document states that an agreement has been reached between the Labour Group and Green Group to support a minority Labour administration.

They are therefore nominating Cllr Miah, Leader of the Labour group, for the position of Leader of the Council.

The proposal will be put to a vote at the annual meeting which is when the Council leader is elected.

Following the local elections on May 4, the political make-up of Charnwood Borough Council is:

  • 23 Conservative

  • 20 Labour

  • 8 Green Party

  • 1 Independent

Before the elections in May 2023, the Conservative Party held the majority of seats in Charnwood Borough Council with Jonathan Morgan as the Leader of the Borough Council.
