Clear up begins following the heavy rain and strong winds

Leicestershire County Council’s highways teams are out clearing trees and branches following the weekend's heavy rain and strong winds.

In total the teams dealt with over twenty incidents of fallen trees and branches on roads and footpaths.

Gangs are currently dealing with six call-outs to remove trees blocking roads across the county, and responded to fifteen call-outs over the weekend.

Wherever possible, trees and branches which were blocking roads were moved to one side to allow traffic to pass safely, but in some cases trees had to be sawn into smaller sections in order for them to be moved.

Our teams have been very busy dealing with the aftermath of recent high winds and rain, clearing roads and footpaths where trees and branches have fallen.

"All roads are now cleared or passable but clear-up work will last for a few days yet.

"If anyone has any concerns about the safety of trees following the high winds they should contact the council.

Blake Pain, cabinet member for environment and transport
