The deadline for a discount on course fees is fast approaching

Time is running out for Leicestershire residents to save 10 per cent on fees for hundreds of part-time day, evening and weekend courses available this autumn.

The discount on the courses, provided by the county council’s Adult Learning Service, Go Learn, runs until 31 August.

The courses take place in venues across the county and include daytime, weekend and evening courses. They range from one-off two-hour sessions to 15-week courses and 30-week programmes, including art, cooking, languages, confidence building, courses for adults with learning difficulties and/or disabilities, and computing.

There are also free courses available for people who are seeking work and looking to gain basic skills, including planning first steps towards employment, increasing confidence, help with job search, CV writing and interview skills.

Workshops on how to access Universal Credit are also offered alongside traditional English and maths GCSE and functional skills, first aid and many other courses aimed at giving learners the tools to progress.

The courses available through Leicestershire Adult Learning Service can make a real difference to people’s lives. There are courses designed to help learners get back into the job market, improve their maths and English, support their children’s learning and improve their health and wellbeing.

“The early bird discount on course fees is a great opportunity to try something different and learn a new skill. I would encourage people to look at the courses on offer and enrol before the 31 August deadline, to make sure they don’t miss out.

Councillor Richard Blunt, cabinet member for heritage, leisure and arts

To find out more, visit www.leicestershire.gov.uk/golearn or pick up a brochure from a Leicestershire library or adult learning centre. The brochures, featuring a list of available courses, or mini-booklets, offering a taster of the education options, have also been delivered to homes across Leicestershire.

For unemployed people, or to improve prospects of getting back into work, the skills for jobs programme offers practical help and support. There are also courses for people, who do not feel ready to join a more general group because of confidence issues.

Anyone in receipt of certain benefits or on a low income can get a 70 per cent discount on adult education courses – or, depending on their circumstances and the course they wish to join - may even be eligible to attend for free.

Courses will still be open for enrolment after 31 August. Anyone who is unsure about the best course for them or who would like to find out more can go along to one of Leicestershire Adult Learning Service’s informal enrolment events, where tutors will be on hand to chat about options.
