Fund to bolster communities

Money available to continue to support those in need.

One-million-pounds is being earmarked to establish a new fund supporting the county’s voluntary and community sector during the coronavirus outbreak.

Leicestershire County Council's hardship fund will enable local groups – who will be impacted by reduced café sales, room rental or donations – to keep on providing support to people who are isolating and reducing social contact.

Leader of the County Council, Nick Rushton said: “These are the most challenging times for almost a century. Councils, the NHS and emergency services are continuing to work together closely – and this money bolsters this mammoth effort. Again, our county councillors are working hard to support people in their areas and this is a good way for them to put forward projects from their local patches.

“We’re taking every step possible to protect and support our residents, partners and businesses – and I’d urge people to keep on following the national advice. Doing so will help to save lives.
