Households will be charged from February after the council admits it can't afford to keep the service free.
Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council will start charging to collect garden waste from February 2019.
The council says it has no choice but to follow in the footsteps of other councils like Hinckley after year-on-year funding cuts from the Government.
Residents will be advised from this week of how they "opt in" to the service.
If residents do not wish to opt-in to the garden waste scheme, there are other options such as composting at home and utilising Judkins household waste recycling centre.
Councillor Jill Sheppard, Portfolio holder for Central Services and Refuse said:
“It has been a difficult decision but in light of central government cuts we can no longer justify providing the green bin collection as a free service. At a £40 annual cost per bin, which works out as an average cost of 80p per week for a fortnightly collection we feel that it gives a valuable service at a good cost base as well as giving residents a choice on whether to continue receiving the service.
The majority of Councils across the country already charge for this service, NBBC have provided it for free for as long as possible but now unfortunately it is simply not feasible to do so any longer as we need the resources to protect frontline services.”
