Carers supporting someone recently discharged from hospital could be eligible.
A one-off grant for carers who have experienced unexpected additional costs is now open for applications until Friday 31 March.
Grants are available for unpaid carers who look after or support someone who wouldn't be able to manage everyday life without their help.
Carers who have supported someone living in Leicestershire who has recently been discharged from hospital could be eligible.
Councillor Christine Radford, cabinet member for adults and communities, said: "The Carers Hospital Discharge Grant provides much-needed relief to unpaid carers across Leicestershire who are doing a wonderful job in looking after their loved ones.
"Many carers have already benefitted from this valuable scheme - we want to reach out and encourage people who perhaps don’t see themselves as carers or aren’t in touch with the Carers Support Service to apply for the grant."
To qualify for the one-off grant, carers will need to show that the cared for person:
- Lives in Leicestershire
- Was discharged from hospital during the last four weeks
- Needs the carer for help and support to keep them safe
- Needs a level of support that has seen additional costs for the carer since the hospital discharge. This includes a loss of income due to taking time off work
The Hospital Discharge Grant is just one of several projects being funded through £2 million of government money given to Leicestershire County Council in November 2022 from the Adult Social Care Discharge Fund.
The fund is being administered by Voluntary South Action Leicestershire (VASL) on behalf of the county council.
Carers can apply by completing the online application form on the Support for Carers website.(link is external)
