Police were called to the A6 Derby Road, between Hathern and Kegworth, just after 1.20 pm.
It was reported the collision had involved a silver Mini Cooper and a cyclist.
The cyclist, a man in his 60s, was taken to the Queen’s Medical Centre for treatment but died shortly after arriving.
The driver of the Mini – a man in his 20s – was not injured during the collision. No-one was arrested.
Detective Constable Charlotte Wright, from the force’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “Our enquiries to establish the circumstances that led to the collision occurring are continuing.
“While we’ve spoken to several people already, I’d ask anyone with dashcam footage or who saw the collision occur – but who has not yet contacted police – to do so. If you saw either the cyclist or Mini beforehand, then I’d also urge you to come forward.
“Anything you’re able to tell us could help.”
