Charnwood Borough Council leader Jonathan Morgan has encouraged residents to follow the new rules of Tier 3 when they come into force on Wednesday 2nd December.

The Government has announced that Charnwood will be under Tier 3 restrictions from Wednesday 2nd December once national lockdown measures end.

That means from that date, people must not meet socially indoors or in most outdoor places with anybody they do not live with, or who is not in their support bubble and the rule of six applies in outdoor public spaces such as parks.

Pubs, cafes and restaurants must close except for takeaways. Essential and non-essential shops will be open.

Councillor Morgan said: “The number of cases has been dropping in Charnwood recently but it’s clear as a region and nation we still have some way to go to get this virus under control.

“While there is plenty to be hopeful for with the recent news about the vaccines, this is no time to drop our guard and it is important we continue to follow the basic guidance of hands, face, space.

“Disregarding the rules quite simply puts other people in jeopardy from the virus and every extra case of Covid-19 puts a further strain on our NHS which people rely on to cope with a number of health conditions.

“It also prolongs the tougher restrictions and damages local businesses and therefore jobs.

“We all must play our part and if we follow the guidance, and as the vaccine is introduced and testing continues to increase, we will really start to fight back against Covid-19 and get our lives and livelihoods back to normal. This is not the time to relax, but fight on as there is light at the end of the tunnel.”
