The group raised £20,000 for the equipment.

Patients at the George Eliot in Nuneaton will benefit from new physiotherapy equipment funded by the League of Friends.

The group raised £20,000 which has paid for two new static trainer bikes, a shower chair, upper limb rehab equipment and electrical muscle stimulation technology.

Physiotherapist Kieron Chamberlain explained: “This new kit will make a real difference to our patients as we support them back to health after a stroke. Being able to use modern equipment such as this will enhance the care we provide and it will be used every day. We made the application for funding not expecting to get everything, but the League of Friends have been fantastic in funding it all.”

All the equipment is housed in the hospital’s Felix Holt Ward gym as part of the unit which aims to rehabilitate stroke patients and ease their return home or to a place of care.

League of Friends member Nita Grant said “We are absolutely delighted to be able to fund the equipment and we look forward to it making a positive impact. Our refurbished Corner Café is at the heart of the hospital and we are lucky to have such dedicated volunteers in place to run it. We are always on the lookout for more volunteer recruits so I invite people to get in touch. Your time will make a real difference to the quality of care the staff provide here at the George Eliot.”
