Major incident declared by Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service

Some roads in the county are impassable due to flooding.

This morning (06/01) Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service declared a major incident across Leicestershire and Rutland.

The emergency service said, "due to multiple incidents across Leicestershire and Rutland with the continuation of cold wet weather causing hazardous conditions across the County, we ask people to avoid non-essential travel, and to not attempt to drive through flood water."

Since this morning, LFRS Control has received over 200 calls, with crews attending incidents involving cars stuck in flood water, evacuating residents from flooded homes, and rising water. So far, 17 members of the public have been rescued by LFRS crews. Appliances from all Stations across the Service are actively responding to calls.

Leicestershire Police have said they are currently experiencing a high volume of calls relating to flooding in parts of Leicestershire and Rutland.

There are also flood alerts in place for parts of Charnwood.

In Sharnford, Leicestershire the one-way system on Leicester Road/Coventry Road has flooded. Local businesses and homes are also flooded.

 

In Loughborough on Forest Road by Toby Carvery is submerged in water.

Loughborough Leisure Centre was partially closed today due to flooding.
