Manoj Patel was already under investigation for affray and criminal damage in Whitwick.
The 48-year-old, of no-fixed-address, was arrested after officers were contacted by staff at Belgrave Medical Centre who were treating a woman who reported being assaulted by her partner.
The woman had significant injuries, some caused by weapons, and she continues to be supported by officers and other agencies.
At the time of his arrest, Patel was already under investigation for affray and criminal damage at an address in Whitwick.
He was charged with three counts of causing actual bodily harm, controlling or coercive behaviour and criminal damage and remanded into custody.
While in custody, Patel sent letters and messages to the woman via third parties attempting to convince her to withdraw her complaint against him.
Patel was subsequently further charged with perverting the course of justice.
He pleaded guilty to all charges.
Detective Constable Adam Green said: “We recognise the courage of the victim to report her concerns and enable us to carry out investigations.
