A man who stabbed his mother outside their home in Burbage has pleaded guilty to manslaughter at Leicester Crown Court.

On Sunday 3 March 2024 East Midlands Ambulance Service (EMAS) were called to a report of a woman in cardiac arrest in The Coppice.

55-year-old Christine Bauld suffered multiple stab wounds and died at the scene.

CCTV footage and witnesses identified Gregor Bauld as the man who attacked Mrs Bauld, his mother, outside the property.

When officers arrived at the scene, they arrested 23-year-old Gregor on suspicion of murder.

Today (Friday), after a three-week trial, the jury found Gregor not guilty of murder. However, he pleaded guilty on day one of his trial to manslaughter on the basis of diminished responsibility.

Detective Inspector Mark Parish, from the East Midlands Special Operations Unit Murder Investigation Team, said: “This was a horrific incident with very tragic and heartbreaking consequences.  A family has been left utterly devastated by the events of that morning.

“Throughout the investigation, it became clear that Gregor was suffering with mental health issues at the time of the incident.

“The family of Mrs Bauld have shown immense bravery throughout the investigation and subsequent criminal proceedings and my thoughts continue to remain with them at this most difficult time.

“A number of witnesses assisted at the scene at the time of the incident to try and help Mrs Bauld and also provided statements to assist our enquiries that followed – I would like to thank these witnesses for your support throughout as we worked to find answers for Mrs Bauld’s family. Thank you.”

He will be sentenced in November.
