"The huge amount of funds raised will make a difference to the lives of the families we support, please accept another heartfelt thank you."
A former Mayor of Nuneaton and Bedworth has raised £33,312 for Zoë's Place Baby Hospice.
The appeal was launched in May 2023 and ran for 12 months during Cllr Walsh’s term of office.
Cllr Martin Walsh said: “I would like to thank all those residents of the borough who kindly donated or supported my appeal for Zoë's Place Baby Hospice, helping to raise much needed funds for this deserving local charity.
“I would also like to thank my fellow councillors for all their support and extend my gratitude to those local companies who supported my appeal in anyway, particularly Spartan Motor Factors.’’
Over the year, various events were organised, including:
-
A 5K inflatable challenge, which took place at Stratford Racecourse, where fellow councillors joined Cllr Walsh and family members
-
Cllr Damon Brown took part in a sponsored cycle ride
-
The appeal received several donations from various people and organisations
-
Two tombolas were held in Nuneaton Market
-
Several social events were held, including the grand finale event, an Abba tribute night at Stockingford Pavilion, organised by Merv Lawrence
Cllr Walsh said: “Every penny of the money raised will be used to help those babies and their families who use the hospice. Thank you all.
“I would also like to thank my wife, Sandra, the Mayoress, for without her support, I could not have hoped to have raised such a significant amount.’’
Lisa Harrison-Byrne, Head of Fundraising at Zoë's Place Baby Hospice, Coventry said: “We were thrilled to hear that the Mayor and Mayoress of Nuneaton and Bedworth were supporting Zoë’s Place – thank you.
“Without the help of fundraising efforts such as these, we would not be able to offer our invaluable services.
“The huge amount of funds raised will make a difference to the lives of the families we support, please accept another heartfelt thank you.’’
