"Every fatal collision that we do attend is a tragedy and so many times, they are preventable."
Leicestershire Police is reminding all road users to continue keeping roads safe after no fatal collisions were reported in the county during the month of May.
Detective Sergeant Jon Putnam of the force’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU), said: “For us to not attend a fatal collision during a month is extremely rare but is of course very welcome. Every fatal collision that we do attend is a tragedy and so many times, they are preventable."
Between January and April this year, Leicestershire Police have investigated 15 fatal collisions.
Detective Inspector Steve Kilsby, head of SCIU, added “During May, we did not have any fatal collisions on our roads and we want to ensure we all work together to help keep it this way and to help keep our roads a safer place to be for all road users.
“We all have our part to play to achieve this. Please remember the ‘fatal 4’ main causes of serious collisions on our roads – speeding, not wearing a seatbelt, becoming distracted while driving - including by using a mobile phone – and drink/drug driving. Please ensure you always drive responsibly and with care for yourself, your passengers and for other road users.
“And please also remember to ‘Share the Road’ - as the summer approaches and we see more road users, including pedestrians, cyclists, motorcyclists and horse riders, please remember to treat all road users respectfully and to only overtake when it is safe to do so."
