The Lord Lieutenant of Leicestershire says our county is under represented in the honours system.

An Honour from Her Majesty the Queen is one of the greatest accolades that can be given to any person and Leicestershire’s Lord-Lieutenant, Mike Kapur OBE, is encouraging local people to nominate anyone who goes “above and beyond” in their work or in service to others. As a County, Leicestershire is underrepresented in the honours system, which is something that Mike is keen to change.

“We have so many remarkable individuals across Leicester and Leicestershire, diligently getting on with what they see as day to day life, when in fact they are having a profound impact on the lives of others.”

“If you know anyone who has been going above and beyond for their community, please do consider nominating them for a personal honour!”.

The nomination process is simple and can be carried out online; https://www.gov.uk/honours.

Here are some useful tips to help you make a nomination…

-             Your nomination should be around 600 words and should highlight the person’s stand-out achievements.

-             The online form also asks you to summarise the achievements of the nominee in less than 20 words. This task is critical to the success of your nomination.

-             Make sure you include all the relevant facts about your nominee and how important and inspiring their contribution has been. Particularly remember to include their most recent achievements.

If successful, the honours are announced by the Queen on her New Year Honours List or on the occasion of her official birthday in June.
