Nuneaton and Bedworth residents are digging deep to boost this year’s Civic Appeal.

And The Mayor, Cllr Bill Hancox is delighted with how well the fund-raising drive is progressing with a package of further events lined up for the first three months of 2018.

These include two Quiz Nights, the first at the Anker Inn, Nuneaton, on Friday, January 12 and the second the following week at the Griff and Coton Club in the town.

There will be a Race Night taking place at The Civic Hall in Bedworth on Friday, February 9, with a Valentine Blues Band Night at Bedworth Conservative Club on Saturday, February 17, headlined by the acclaimed Treacle Town.

On Saturday, March 17, there will be a Dance Show at Saunders Hall Working Men’s Club in Bedworth organised by The Julie Bromage Dance Academy. Previous successful events include a wing walk hundreds of feet in the air by the Mayor and his daughter, street collections, market stalls and a Motown evening.

Cllr Hancox said: “Myself and the appeal committee are delighted with how well the appeal is going and we wanted to say the appeal continues to gain momentum and we want to say a big thank you for your support in raising money for the appeal.

“We know how generous the people of this borough are, but they have surpassed themselves with this appeal ad we want to say a big thank you to them.’’

The appeal is raising funds to buy equipment for the Lymphoedema Clinic based at the Mary Ann Evans Hospice and wants to raise awareness of Secondary Lymphoedema. It is something close to Cllr Hancox’s heart, as his wife and Mayoress Sheila was diagnosed with the life changing condition that has no cure, following treatment for Breast Cancer.

Lymphoedema is a condition of localised fluid retention and tissue swelling caused by a compromised lymphatic system, which normally returns interstitial fluid to the thoracic duct, then the bloodstream.

Primary Lymphoedema can be inherited or can be caused by a birth defect. Secondary Lymhoedema, is caused by cancer treatments.
