The money will be used for projects which support young people

Charnwood Community Safety Partnership has secured £149,000 to help reduce youth-related anti-social behaviour and crime.

The partnership, which is made up of the borough council, police, county council, health agencies and others, has received funding through the Home Office’s Safer Streets fund.

Cllr Leigh Harper-Davies, chair of the Community Safety Partnership and also the Council’s lead member for communities, said: “We are very grateful to receive this funding from the Home Office’s Safer Streets fund.

“All the agencies involved in the Charnwood Community Safety Partnership will be working together to reduce anti-social behaviour and crime in the area.

“There will be a particular focus on diverting young people who may be involved in anti-social behaviour and crime towards more positive behaviours.”

The money will be used for projects which support young people and deter them from getting involved in anti-social behaviour and crime.

Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland Police and Crime Commissioner Rupert Matthews said: “This funding is fantastic news for communities in Charnwood enabling investment in projects proven to deter young people from anti-social behaviour and crime.

“Our communities need activities that build young people’s confidence and self-discipline and provide an outlet for them to use their time constructively. This can make a huge difference to their futures and path into adulthood.

“I am grateful to the partnership for putting together such a compelling bid for this funding and for supporting my own work to increase opportunities for young people to thrive.”
