Charnwood Borough Council’s Big Lunch Event in Queen’s Park will not take place due to the bad weather.

The council said “Unfortunately The Big Lunch event which was planned to be held in Queen’s Park today (Sunday June 5) to mark Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee has sadly been cancelled due to heavy rain and a yellow weather warning for thunderstorms.”

Charnwood Museum will be open to the public between 1-4pm with a number of activities for children and a special exhibition from the Local History Volunteer Group, including a timeline highlighting the Queen’s key life events and visits to the city of Leicester, along with some fantastic arts and crafts work inspired by the Queen and the Royal family.

A statement on the council website said “There will still be some live music in the park with a Carillon recital at 1pm and the Charnwood Symphonic Wind Orchestra are planning to perform in the bandstand from 3pm.”

“The comical chefs will also be located near the museum between 1-4pm to provide free entertainment and balloon modelling for children.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
