Planning Committee meetings for Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council will resume remotely from next week.
It's following the Government’s decision to grant local authorities powers to meet and make decisions using digital technology.
Council meetings across the country were suspended following the government’s lockdown measures, introduced in response to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Planning committee meeting will be the first remotely held meeting on Tuesday 19 May starting at 6.30pm.
Meetings will be conducted using Zoom and members of the public will be able to watch the live stream of the meeting via the council’s YouTube channel which can be accessed from the council’s web site here: www.hinckley-bosworth.gov.uk/planningcommittee.
Public speaking arrangements at the meeting will still go ahead in accordance with the Planning Committee procedure rules. Members of the public who are entitled to speak at the meeting will have received a letter with information on how to register to speak.
Planning Committee Chair, Councillor Joyce Crooks said “We are pleased to be able to resume meetings using IT solutions that to allow us to meet virtually. It is a first for this council and it has been a learning curve for all of us but it’s important we all do what we can to ensure the decisions we make continue to be democratic, open to debate and public scrutiny whilst also ensuring the safety of the public, councillors and officers.”
