A day of activities took place at Hinckley market on Saturday (18 May) to celebrate this year’s Love Your Local Market campaign.
Shoppers received a free Hinckley Market cotton ‘Love Hinckley Market’ bag when they shopped at a market stall.
There was also entertainment on offer including performances throughout the day from Professor Paul Temple’s Traditional Punch and Judy show. Britain’s Got Talent semi-finalist 2017 ‘Hoop Guy’ entertained the crowds by stilt-walking and juggling. There was also free face painting with Netties Faces and a market trail for children, taking them up Castle Street to search for the fruit and vegetables across the market stalls. Children could also decorate and hide stones with #Islastones
Local radio station Fosse 107 followed proceedings and provided the soundtrack. Hinckley District Past and Present were also at the event showcasing a collection of Hinckley Market photographs from over the years.
In addition to the special activities, a range of Saturday market stalls were present, selling everything from greetings cards and wrapping paper to fabrics, cosmetics, electrical goods, coffee beans and loose tea, jewellery, bakery items, eggs, confectionery, shrubs and plants, fruit and vegetables, vacuum bags and spares, wild bird food and timer products.
John Coward, Assistant Town Centre Manager, said: "We had a fantastic turnout with several market stall holders telling me there was a great atmosphere around the town on Saturday. Thanks to everyone who came along to support the event, it was great to see so many people shopping in the town and enjoying the entertainment on offer.”
