The traditional St George's Parade and service in Hinckley, organised by Hinckley District Scouts
Days before the event was due to take place on Saturday 26th April, Hinckley District Scouts announced that they have had to take the decision to cancel this year’s annual St George’s Day parade.
District Leader for the Scouts Phil Woolaston said: “It is with regret that Hinckley District Scouts have made the difficult decision to cancel this year’s St George’s Day parade and service. We understand that this event holds a great significance for our community, and we share in the disappointment this may cause. However, this decision has been made with careful consideration, prioritising the best interests of everyone of all involved."
There are still a number of events taking place in the town centre to mark St George's Day celebrations.
In the Market Place from 10am you can look forward to:
Tom the Tale Teller (10am, 11am, 12 noon performances)
Bakanalia, Morris dancers (10.30am and 11.30am performances)
Stilt walking St George and Snappy Dragon throughout the day
Knights and Princesses Trail - pick up a map and answer sheet (between 10am and 1pm) from the council’s gazebo in Market Place, return to collect a treat
Children's crafts supplied and ran by the United Reformed Church
In Argents Mead, the Red River Theatre Company will also be performing their new play, Two Women Meet in Heaven. Show times are 11:30am, 12:30pm and 1:30pm. The play is about what happens when two legendary Hinckley writers, Charlotte Brame and Elizabeth Coxhead, meet in the afterlife.
Cat Stilling, Events Coordinator for the Borough Council said: “Whilst we are sad that the parade and service will not be going ahead, the rest of the day’s events will be taking place and look forward to welcoming families and friends into the town centre."
