Teenager jailed for 12 years after admitting Nuneaton rape

A 17-year-old boy from Nuneaton, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was arrested in connection with an incident that took place on the Coventry Canal towpath on the evening of the 21st of June.

A woman in her 20s was walking along when she was pushed into a bush, sexually assaulted and raped.

The teenager was charged with:

• Raping a woman 16 years of age or over
• Attempt rape of a woman 16 or over
• Causing a female 13 or over to engage in non-penetrative sexual activity
• Sexually assaulting a female

He pleaded guilty to three of the offences and was found guilty of rape at a hearing in September.

On Monday (12th December) at Warwick Crown Court, he was sentenced to 12 years in prison - to serve a minimum of seven and a half years.

Detective Chief Inspector Teresa McKenna said: “Thankfully the boy has now been convicted of this appalling crime and will face justice for his actions. Understandably, it has been a very traumatic for the victim who has shown great bravery throughout the investigation and I hope this will go some way to helping give some sense of closure.

"I also hope this conviction will provide reassurance to other victims of sexual offences, and give them the confidence to report their ordeal in the knowledge that they will be listened to and supported. We will always investigate and do everything in our power to bring offenders to justice.”
