Plain-clothed officers have been patrolling Nuneaton town centre targeting shoplifters.
A prolific shoplifter from Nuneaton has been jailed after he stole hundreds of pounds worth of goods from shops in Nuneaton.
An operation run by Nuneaton Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) identified Dwight Fenton as he was wanted for stealing £400 worth of bedding from a shop in Regent Street last month.
Officers from the SNT carried out plain-clothed patrols in Nuneaton town centre targeting shoplifters.
They spotted Fenton while they were on patrol on Tuesday (18 October) and arrested him.
Enquiries linked him to three other shoplifting offences in the town centre between 10 September and 17 October where hundreds of pounds of alcohol, make up and clothing were stolen.
Fenton appeared at Coventry Magistrates’ on the 19th of October where he was jailed for 24 weeks after pleading guilty to four counts of theft.
PC Matt Cooper from Nuneaton SNT said: “This operation and the jailing of Fenton shows how seriously we take the issue of shoplifting in Nuneaton. It also sends out a clear message to shoplifters ahead of the busy Christmas period that we’re looking our for you and we will take action.
“I would like to thank local businesses for their support with this investigation that led to a prompt conviction for Fenton.”
