Officers were called to Main Street. Rempstone in the early hours of the morning.

Local residents got a shock awakening when they heard a village post box explode in the early hours of the morning.

Officers were called to Main Street. Rempstone near Loughborough, following a number of reports that a post box had exploded and a 4x4 car was seen speeding off.

Officers are now appealing for information as they continue their enquiries into the incident, which happened at around 12.10am on Tuesday (20 July 2021).

Detective Sergeant Charlotte Henson, investigating the incident, said: "This was a blatant act of vandalism which has left a village without their post box, a service which will be vital to some of the residents.

"We would reassure residents that our officers are committed to investigating such reports of criminal damage and we understand how frightening it must have been for those who witnessed it. This was a mindless act of vandalism, however, we don't believe there is any wider risk to the public.

"Our enquiries are ongoing and officers are reviewing CCTV footage from the area. We would urge anyone who saw the incident or has any information to get in touch on 101, quoting incident 46 of 20 July 2021."
