Bedworth youngsters made some animal friends as part of their activities at this year’s Breakaway Club.
The club, run by Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council, for five to 13-year-olds, runs until Friday, August 25 and is based at The Civic Hall in High Street, Bedworth, featuring a host of exciting activities over a four-week period.
Members enjoyed a superb day when Nuneaton and Warwickshire Wildlife Sanctuary brought a selection of animals to the High Street venue.
The youngsters were shown a variety of creatures, including owls and snakes, and heard about their lives in the wild.
The sanctuary, based at Oaston Road in Nuneaton, rescues sick, injured and abandoned birds and animals, they receive medication, rest and recuperation in preparation for release back into the wild.
“The children really enjoyed seeing the animals and being able to touch some of them as well as asking some interesting questions.
“They also heard about all of the valuable work carried out by the Sanctuary, and I am sure they will remember this day for a long time to come.’’
Said Tim Norton, General Manager of The Civic Hall in Bedworth.
Youngsters have also enjoyed an inflatable fun day, a living history workshop detailing the work of a barber surgeon during the Wars of The Roses, a circus skills workshop, film club, dance and drama sessions.
Next week’s activities include craft sessions with Nuneaton model-maker Anthony James, a session on a climbing wall, a drawing masterclass, cooking and sports sessions on an the all-weather pitch at Bedworth United.
The club has proved hugely successful over the last few years, but there are still some spaces left and anyone wanting further information should call 07770 813755.
