Detectives are appealing for witnesses and dash cam footage following a fatal road traffic collision on the M1 yesterday.

Police received a call at 5.34pm (Sunday 1 December) to a report of a collision involving a pedestrian and a LGV Rigid Daf livestock carrier – which was being used to transport horses – on the southbound carriageway close to junction 21.

The pedestrian, a man, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The driver, passengers and the horses in the vehicle were not injured.

The carriageway was closed between junction 22 and 21 to allow for a full examination of the scene and has since been reopened.

Detective Constable Louise Hough, from the force’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “We would like to speak to anyone who may have seen the collision or pedestrian and the vehicle involved before the collision and has not as yet spoken to police.

“Alternatively, anyone who was travelling along the M1, close to junction 21, at the time of the collision, please check your dash cam - you may have captured footage that could be useful to the investigation.”
