She remains in hospital with injuries that are life-threatening and officers are appealing for witnesses.
Castle Street in Hinckley is closed after a woman was found seriously injured.
In the early hours of this morning (Wednesday 7 December) police were informed that a woman in her 50s had been taken to the University Hospital of Coventry and Warwickshire after she was found in Castle Street with serious head injuries just after 11:15 pm.
She remains in hospital with injuries that are life-threatening.
A scene preservation is in place in Castle Street while officers carry out enquiries.
No arrests have been made at this time.
Detective Inspector Esther Scott, from the Complex Investigation Team (CIT) said: “Our investigation is very much in its early stages. We want to establish how the woman sustained her injuries.
“I’m particularly keen to speak to anyone who was in the area of Castle Street and Station Road between 9 pm and midnight and may have seen the woman or what happened to her.
“I’d also like any businesses with CCTV to get in touch. Any information or footage you’re able to provide could help.”

Castle Street is closed from Hinckley and Rugby Building Society down to Market Place.
It is unknown when the street will re-open.
The back entrance to the Britannia Centre is open however you cannot access Castle Street from there.
