The town has won a region-wide competition to land its own official board game.
Loughborough has won a competition to have its own personalised MONOPOLY board game.
Today (14th February), in the town centre, Mr
Hasbro, who make the iconic property game, say Loughborough was chosen because of the town's 'Pride’; ‘Beauty’ and ‘Sense of Community’.
Ella Gibbs, Custom Games Executive at Winning Moves UK, said: “Loughborough has a very strong community spirit. We expect to be wonderfully spoiled for choice when putting this board together.”
The public is invited to suggest Loughborough landmarks to be showcased in the game and it is expected that the Carillon Tower, Charnwood Museum, Loughborough University, the Town Hall and Beacon Hill will be popular choices.
The board will be produced in time for Christmas 2023.
Mayor of Charnwood, Cllr Jennifer Tillotson, says: “This is great news - not only for Loughborough but also for the borough as a whole.
“We are proud of Loughborough and the surrounding areas and this is a fantastic way of highlighting the landmarks that we have.
“I can’t wait to see the final product and hope everyone in the borough gets involved and has a say.”
The MONOPOLY board will be fully customised and so the Chance and Community Chest cards as well as train stations will be altered.
Lead member for Loughborough, Cllr Jenny Bokor, said: “I am really excited about this new, MONOPOLY: Loughborough Edition game. Loughborough has a rich heritage and a fantastic history which we are so proud of.
“We have many iconic landmarks in the town which will be demonstrated on the game. This includes the Carillon Tower, in the year that we are marking its centenary.
“I’d encourage everyone to have their say on which of our famous and fantastic landmarks should be included in the game.”
