The hunt is on to find Hinckley and Bosworth residents who make a difference to the lives of others through volunteering.

The council is urging residents to nominate a person or group that deserves recognition for the help they give to others.

The 'Making a Difference' community awards, to be held on Wednesday 6 June at Cineworld, Hinckley are sponsored by the Borough Council and include individual and group categories as follows:

Individual categories:

  • Helping hands (someone who provides practical and/or emotional support)
  • Good neighbour
  • Group contributor – someone who has played a key role in establishing or sustaining a community group
  • Lifetime achievement
  • Young volunteer of the year (16-25 year old)
  • Personal development award (An individual who has improved their personal skills and life prospects through volunteering)

Group categories:

  • Neighbourhood improvement group (a group of residents who have improved a neighbourhood)
  • Helping hands (a group who provide emotional/practical support to others)
  • Best new project (an initiative by volunteers that begun after Jan 2016)
  • Longstanding achievement (a group who has improved the quality of life for residents over many years)

Leader of the Borough Council, Cllr Mike Hall, said: “These awards are a great way to recognise the individuals and groups who voluntarily help to support their communities. Last year we celebrated the work of some of the most selfless people in our borough, who work to improve themselves, the people around them and the places they live. If you know somebody who deserves a public thank-you, then nominate them for this year's 'Making a Difference Awards' and let them know how much you appreciate the work that they do”.

You can nominate or download an application form on our website. Alternatively contact the council’s Resident Involvement Officer, Jacqui Kissai, for a nomination form, Tel: 01455 255 639, Email: jacqui.kissai@hinckley-bosworth.gov.uk or write to Hinckley Hub, Rugby Road, Hinckley LE10 0FR

Nominations must be received by Tuesday 15 May 2018. A judging panel will consider all of the nominations and the awards will be presented at the voluntary and community sector celebration event on Wednesday 6 June. Each winner will receive a trophy and all nominees will receive a medal or certificate.
