A man who threatened a shop-keeper with a knife in Burbage has been jailed for more than seven years.
31-year-old Christopher Grewcock threatened the woman with a knife as he tried to steal money from the shop in Coventry Road on 28th February at 12:30 in the afternoon.
The victim screamed and her husband came into the shop and pushed a counter into the defendant. He ran out of the shop, empty handed.
He was arrested after the attempted robbery on 28th February after fleeing the scene in a car which was followed by police.
At Leicester Crown Court, Grewcock, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to attempted robbery and to threatening a person with a bladed article.
He also admitted a count of robbery, theft and attempted theft in relation to other incidents committed in the Hinckley area.
Christopher Grewcock was sentenced to a total of seven years and 10 months imprisonment. This includes 16-weeks imprisonment for breach of a suspended sentence.
The other offences Grewcock admitted are:
- Robbery at a shop in Castle Street, Hinckley, on 28 February. This happened just over an hour prior to the incident in Coventry Road. A member of staff was made aware that a man, later identified as Grewcock, was behind the till. Grewcock was seen jumping up and over the counter and was carrying a cash drawer. He left the scene in a vehicle. The till stolen contained hundreds of pounds as well as theatre tokens and stamps.
- Attempted theft and theft at the same shop in Castle Street, Hinckley, on 23 and 24 February. Regarding the theft offence, which was committed on 23 February, Grewcock entered the store, picking up around 30 DVDs before leaving without paying.
Grewcock denied the offences in interview but investigative work, including CCTV analysis and witness accounts, linked him to the crimes.
The vehicle which Grewcock had been stopped in on 28 February was also recovered by police with items found in it including the contents of the stolen till.
Detective Constable Krupa Parmar said: “Grewcock caused fear and distress for people carrying out their work and it is fortunate that no-one was injured in the incidents. My thanks go to the victims of these offences who co-operated with us throughout the investigation leading to these guilty pleas today.”
