Cadent Gas considers moving out of Hinckley

Cadent is consulting staff on plans to move around 1000 jobs from Hinckley to Coventry.

The firm has a large call centre on Brick Kiln Lane that deals with queries for the whole country. The proposals include moving this facility to Ansty Business Park. 

The head office is located in Prologis Business Park on the edge of Coventry just off Junction 3 of the M6.

In a statement the firm said no jobs would be lost and a consultation with employees is underway. 

Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council said it would offer support to any employees affected by the announcement. 

Council Leader Stuart Bray said: “We are disappointed to hear Cadent intend to relocate its base from Hinckley to Ansty which is a real blow to the town, but I can confirm the council stand ready to engage with its partners and with the company to offer help and support to any Cadent employees directly impacted from these changes and to minimise disruption to local workers. We will also continue discussions with Cadent around the future of this large town centre site and seek reassurance of job retention going forward.” 

Bill Cullen, Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council’s Chief Executive added: “Cadent have been a valued partner on the local Employment and Skills Partnership and on the local Employability and Internship programme and we hope this will continue. However, due to the fact that they are moving to a hybrid model of home and office working we expect many Cadent employees will remain in this area.  We will work closely with our partners to offer support to affected employees.”

Unions representing some workers told Fosse 107 they are concerned about the plans. 

Commenting on the unexpected announcement, UNISON East Midlands regional organiser Ed Bratt said: “This has come as a bolt from the blue to staff still reeling from the job losses announced back in April. 

“Some employees may be able to work from home after Brick Kiln Lane closes, but not everyone’s jobs can be done from their living rooms and kitchens.  

“Others will have no option but to move to the new site. But it’s not served by public transport, and not all staff have their own cars." 
Cadent said no decisions have yet been made.
