Police have linked a cash machine robbery in Stoney Stanton with others across Leicestershire

A free standing cash machine was stolen from the Co-op store in New Road in Stoney Stanton in the early hours of Thursday (27 Jul) morning.

Officers say it happened shortly after 2:55am in New Road. A digger was used to smash through the front of the store which had been stolen from Gilmorton.

The suspects left the scene in a dark Mercedes or BMW.

Detective Sergeant Dave Speight of the force’s serious crime team, said: “We are in the early stages of our enquiries and are looking into the possibility that this recent incident may be linked to the theft of an ATM from Ashby on 10 July and Thringstone on 5 June.

“We are in the process of looking through CCTV from the local area and would urge anyone who may have caught any part of the incident on their private or commercial CCTV cameras to contact us immediately.

“If you were in this area during the early hours of this morning and witnessed the incident or saw anyone acting suspiciously prior to the theft then we’d like to speak to you.”
