Nuneaton charity 'Saints' providing weekly sessions to help staff dealing with the coronavirus pandemic.

Saints coffee shop and community hub, which is based in the former Conservative Club in Newdegate Street, hosts the group sessions for frontline workers who are encouraged to share their experiences and concerns about the deadly virus.

Luke Webster is a qualified counsellor and hosts the weekly meetings.

Luke said, “According to a recent study, close to half of the nurses and doctors treating Covid patients are finding themselves left with mental health difficulties.

“That’s a very worrying statistic and so I’ve teamed up with Saints in Nuneaton to provide a safe space away from the hospital for NHS workers to share their experiences and receive support.”

Saints’ chief executive Reverend Jet Jones secured funding for the counselling project as the Christian charity.

She told Fosse107 that she set up the scheme after hearing from a nurse on the COVID ward at the hospital.

"She just said it's been so difficult with all the stress they were under and if we had any counselling on offer.

"I didn't at the time but it got me thinking...we applied for some funding and we were successful."

Jet said she hopes to continue the service and wants to see more places offer some sort of therapy to struggling health workers.

Any George Eliot staff interested in joining the sessions should contact Saints at: admin@saintsnuneaton.org
