Two men were arrested after a break-in at a shop in Barrow-upon-Soar.

A block of concrete was used to smash the window of the shop in High Street on Saturday 6th April at 2:30am.

Police said cosmetics and electrical items were stolen from the store and the suspects fled in a van towards the A6.

A van overtook the police dog unit vehicle on the A6 near Mountsorrel and the vehicle was pulled over. Leicestershire Police said the vehicle was driving at "excessive speed" and  "after one of the two occupants failed to comply with the officer’s instructions he was red dotted with a Taser and both men were arrested."

The men, aged 26 and 56, from Leicester, were arrested on suspicion of burglary. They have since been released on police bail pending further enquiries.

PC Jim Chaplin said: “If it wasn’t for the actions of the officers, and their suspicions about the occupants of the vehicle, those arrests may not have taken place so quickly.

“Goods believed to be stolen during the incident were recovered from the back of the van and enquiries are now ongoing into the incident.

“If anyone witnessed the burglary or saw the occupants of a white van acting suspiciously in the Barrow-upon-Soar area during the early hours of Saturday morning they are urged to contact us.”

Anyone with any information is asked to contact PC 1415 Chaplin on 101, quoting crime reference number 19*174232.
