Council seek injunction after work begins on 'unauthorised work' begins in Hinckley

Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council received reports of work underway on land off Leicester Road on Saturday (1st May).

The Council, with the support of the police and the Leicestershire Multi Area Traveller Unit, had initially served a Temporary Stop Notice on Sunday (2 May) to halt the work.

Chalet cabins and mobile units, as well as ground works and the erection of fencing, could be spotted over the bank holiday weekend.

But Fosse107 can confirm work was continuing as of Wednesday (5th May). 

The council will now go to the Courts to see an injunction to stop and remove the development.

They will also seek prosecutions for the, 'flouting' of the Temporary Stop Notice.

A Borough Council spokesperson said,

"A Temporary Stop Notice is a powerful tool for a local planning authority to use to require the cessation of  unauthorised works; it comes into effect immediately, and non-compliance with the notice can lead to prosecution and a significant fine.  However, despite these best efforts, unauthorised works have continued in breach of the Temporary Stop Notice.  

"Now the Borough Council has applied to the courts for an injunction which seeks to halt work on site and for current development to be removed.

"The council will also seek to progress prosecutions for flouting the Temporary Stop Notice.

"The Borough Council will continue to monitor the situation and, with the help of partners, manage local community impacts."
