Agandy Anderson smashed into traffic lights in Copt Oak, after being spotted speeding by an off-duty police officer.

He was caught in a nearby field where he was found to be in possession of cocaine and heroin, a quantity of cash and mobile phones.

The car also was not his, and he was charged with the aggravated taking of a vehicle without consent.

The 25-year-old from Wolverhampton was initially seen driving at speed by an off-duty Leicestershire officer in Warren Hills Road, Coalville. The officer was in another vehicle.

Around the same time, another off-duty Leicestershire officer was walking in the area of Whitwick Road, Copt Oak, when he heard a loud impact and saw a dark-coloured vehicle had crashed into some traffic lights.

He fled the scene but later returned to the car before again being spotted by the other off-duty officer.

On-duty police arrived and arrested Anderson who was hiding in a field.

At his trial he was found guilty of two counts of possession of class A drugs with intent to supply. He had previously pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and aggravated taking of a vehicle without consent.

He had also previously pleaded guilty at a separate court hearing to two further counts of possession of class A with intent to supply in relation to a separate incident, where Anderson was stop checked in a vehicle in Kidderminster and was found to be in possession of heroin, cocaine, cash and mobile phones.

He was given eight years in jail.
