They are proposing to replace St Michael’s Court.
Plans to create eight new bungalows for council tenants in Thurmaston have been revealed by Charnwood Borough Council.
They are proposing to replace St Michael’s Court, which is a sheltered housing complex, in Melton Road
The Council's said that the site no longer meets the demands of local older people as they are mostly bedsits with shared bathrooms.
Cllr James Poland, the Council’s lead member for public housing, said: “Cabinet will be asked to support the proposal and I am pleased to see it reach this stage.
“St Michael’s Court is not providing the quality and type of accommodation people want in that area and that’s why this plan has been brought forward.
“We have consulted with the few remaining tenants about the plans and have offered them our full support.”
A budget meeting for the council is happening on the 9th of February and they will consider allocating a budget to the project.
The provisional budget for the project is £2 million.
The proposals are at an early stage and the plans are all subject to further work on a business case and planning permission.
The council's said that the current tenants of St Michael’s have been offered support with alternative accommodation during construction and will be given first refusal of a bungalow.
