Fire crews tackling large fire in Shepshed

Firefighters remain at the site of a large fire in Shepshed.

Crews were called on Friday evening, 12th August, after reports of smoke near to junction 23 of the M1. 

Matthew Cane, Head of Operation Response for Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service tweeted videos from the incident and advised local people to keep their doors and windows closed.

Leicestershire Fire & Rescue Service said smoke could be seen from the blaze, 20 miles away.

Matthew Cane described the incident as "protracted" and said that crews would be on the scene for some time.

Fosse 107 reporters from near the scene said a number of roads were closed and smoke was still visible in the local area.
