Firefighters called to extinguish car fire at the side of the M1

The driver reacted quickly to pull the flaming car to the side of the road.

It happened M1 Southbound, J22 - J21A near Markfield.

Two crews from Coalville and Southern fire stations were in attendance after receiving 'numerous calls' about a car on fire.

The Mini was well alight when the teams arrived and was destroyed by the blaze.

The cause of the fire is believed to be a fuel leak which caused petrol to ignite on the hot engine.

Nobody was hurt but 2 lanes of the Southbound carriage way of the M1 were closed.
