Garage employee assaulted by customer who tried to steal fuel

Police received a call at around 6:10 pm last night (24 August).

Officers have arrested a man following an assault and bilking at a garage in Desford.

Police received a call last night to an incident at a garage at the junction with Desford Lane and A47 Hinckley Road.

It was reported that a man had attempted to make off without paying for fuel and when challenged by a member of staff, the staff member was assaulted.

The victim sustained a stab wound to his arm and chest.

Detective Sergeant Lee Owen, from Braunstone CID, said: “Due to the quick response of the attending officers, we were able to carry out early crucial enquiries who assisted us in locating the suspect in the offending vehicle shortly after the report.

“Our enquiries remain ongoing into the incident and I would ask anyone who witnessed what happened and hasn’t as yet spoken to police to please get in touch.”

Officers tracked a vehicle after information was provided by witnesses and later in the evening a 33-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of GBH.

The 33-year-old remains in custody where he will be questioned by detectives.

The victim received hospital treatment and his injuries are not described as life-threatening or life-changing.
